Nicole and Dustin had a small group of family members join them for their day on Flagstaff mountain. Although this was not technically an elopement, the simplicity of the day felt similarly!

A few weeks before the wedding, Dustin broke his leg, but he still managed to make his way around the ceremony site and Chautauqua for photos!

The easy access to variety in scenery at this spot is a main reason why I enjoy it so much. The views of the mountains from Flagstaff mountain are lush with lots of trees in the distance and some open field areas. Then the views of the flatirons at Chautauqua can’t be topped as a perfect background for wedding photos.

On your elopement day, I prioritize checking light or sunset times to be sure that the light is where we want it and expect it to be on your day. I also offer help with creating a timeline and realistic expectations for how long photos will take. When there is a small group of family members attending as well, it’s important for me to make sure you have time to socialize and enjoy your day. It’s meant to be a day of enjoying and celebrating your love, it is not a photoshoot only. I like using this reframe to help my couples remember the important parts of the day and not to worry about every detail falling perfectly into place.

Boulder Mountain Elopement

Alli and Josh got married on October 19th, 2024. They had their closest friends and family meet them in Boulder, Colorado where they recently moved! One of my best friends introduced me to Alli and Josh years ago when we were all in college.

Alli and Josh’s love is so noticeable and sweet. Just seeing them interact in kindness together made me so happy to be documenting their love.

I arrived at the amazing house they all stayed at and got ready together in. Alli chose to do a first look with Josh plus all of their friends who are also unofficial bridesmaids and groomsmen. The moment was perfect as the dress itself was a complete surprise to everyone.

After the first look, we all left for Flagstaff Mountain where Alli and Josh exchanged their vows privately as their friends and family watched from afar at the ceremony site. It was cloudy, and I loved the intimacy of these moments they were able to spend together.

Alli and Josh made their way back up the path to the ceremony site where their guests were all waiting. Their ceremony was short with a few speeches including Alli’s dad mentioning lots of funny stories from Alli’s childhood. Afterwards, all of their guests signed their marriage license as witnesses!

We of course made time for couples portraits of Alli and Josh. I loved capturing the moment where Josh remembered that they had some apple pie moonshine to share as a newly married couple.

Finally, we went to Chautauqua for some wedding party photos and views.

This elopement at Chautauqua in Boulder, CO was beautiful. We caught a break from the cold February weather and the sun came out for a 50, 60 degree day! It was perfect. We had a little ceremony in the open area at the bottom on Chautauqua then drove up Flagstaff to take photos at some lookout points. Lauren and Ken were giddy with excitement the entire time. Telling each other “I love you” at any chance they got, and really taking the day in. I hardly even needed to prompt them for poses! I loved this winter elopement. It was a little more quiet than usual in Boulder this day, and it was magical.
