Maternity Photo Inspiration with Dogs in Colorado

Maternity Photo Inspiration with Dogs in Colorado

Karl and Leanna are expecting a baby girl and they’re thrilled to have yet another girl in their pack. We explored this beautiful park in Lyons. I loved the huge rock wall by the river. The fall colors were still in full swing and we had perfect weather. The dogs, Annie and Meesha wanted to be near Leanna and Karl at all times which resulted in a fair amount of howling throughout our session. Luckily, that resulted in lots of laughs and fun moments in between. Leanna and Karl and wonderful, intelligent and kind people. I feel more grateful and happy each time I’m given the opportunity to document parts of my friends’ lives.

Amber has been in front of my camera for the past 4.5 years we’ve known each other. Amber was one of my very first friends. I met her at a business networking event 2 weeks after I moved to Colorado early 2019. She was kind and welcoming to me right away. We clicked instantly and I knew we would be good friends. We’ve grown so much alongside each other as individuals, business owners and friends. We did a little photo session in Denver before Amber left for her trip to Japan for the next few months!

Amber helps me to leave my comfort zone, helps me feel inspired and passionate about life. It’s no surprise that she’s a mindset and spirituality coach for entrepreneurs. Her positive energy is contagious! I love taking photos of her.

Aubri and Matt’s wedding at Sunset Ranch in Buena Vista was incredible!! These two were so kind and a joy to be around throughout their day. Seeing all the love and support from their family and friends made me so happy. We had perfect weather and of course the perfect sunset. The views here had so much to offer. The mountains in the distance, the open fields and skies, the happiest people- it all had me smiling the entire day.

Alex and Collin’s Mountaintop elopement in Boulder

This private, weekday elopement after a rainstorm in Boulder was magical. Alex and Collin are so sweet together. Documenting their special moments and elopement was a dream! I was in love with the overgrown grass at Chautauqua from all the rain we’ve gotten in Colorado over the summer.

When I first started photographing weddings around age 20, I quickly realized how important it was to connect with the people I’d be photographing. Couples choose to trust me, a photographer (who is usually a stranger prior to the event) to be one of the only witnesses for their marriage or elopement! Annnnd to wander around with them for several hours in nature while they express the most vulnerable words and emotions to each other. There’s never been any room for NOT connecting with my clients.

So I began to make sure I asked all the questions about their lives, their relationship, their hobbies and making sure there’s not uncomfortable silences. Having your photo taken is already intimidating, but to confess your love and commitment to you partner in front of a camera? Terrifying. Well, hopefully it’s not so terrifying after we meet and we become friend haha

But in all seriousness, other than taking quality photos and being well versed in my profession, I make it a top priority to keep the conversation flowing, prompts being given, lots of movement being incorporated, all to assure that you’re having a great time on your special day AND to have incredible photos to look back on as well as memories.

Forest Fairy Photo Inspiration - Divine Feminine Photoshoot in Denver, CO

As an advocate for women and women’s rights, this divine feminine photoshoot felt so empowering for me too! Lex is a Reiki practitioner and nature ceremony facilitator. We took these photos at a magical, secluded spot in Denver. The light was unreal! The natural pool we found was just glowing as the sun set behind us. It was truly a dream photoshoot. We listened to the perfect playlist full of Ayla Nereo songs and explored the forest together.

Women looking for photos in the Denver area: the rivers are still flowing and ready to be frollicked in! I’ve been making my way to a creek or body of water at least once a week to enjoy the water before the seasons change. Because I cannot believe it’s already mid August. Regardless, I’m so grateful to connect with beautiful humans wanting to embrace themselves fully as they are. Send me an email to book a session or find me on instagram and let’s chat! <3

Maddie and Tristin’s Wedding 7/15/23

Dillon Reservoir in Silverthorne, CO is incredible. The water is so clear, the campsites are surrounded by trees, there’s enough open space to star gaze at night and each sunset is gorgeous! Although I was a guest and not the official photographer for the wedding day, I had to get some photos of my best friend, Maddie frolicking in the field the night before the wedding and of course at the reception the night of the wedding. Seeing people that you love and care about promise their devotion to each other, their patience, their love, and to be in one place with all the people who matter the most to them, was one of the most special things to witness. Maddie and Tristin are so kind, inspirational, welcoming and so dang happy! Having these two in my circle is more special than I can articulate.

Denver Family Photographer - First Birthday Party

Miko’s first birthday! And it’s called Mikochella.

This adorable family hosted Miko’s birthday party at their home. Taylor and Keith put in so much love to decorate and invite their friends and family to celebrate Miko. Taylor knows how fast Miko is already growing up and how much she wants to preserve the memories of this time of their lives. It’s so special to be able to look back on with time. Being a first birthday photographer in Colorado is such a special event for me too! I’ve seen Miko a few weeks after he was born all the way up until this point. Watching families grow, metaphorically and physically is wild. I probably feel an ounce of the way my parents and relatives do when they say, you’ve changed and grown so much!! And it’s a beautiful feeling.

Courtney and Justin + Hazel and Mooney

These two are such a power couple. Courtney works as a chemist while in school at Harvard to get her Master’s degree! Justin owns his own HVAC business and works just as hard. They love exercising together, taking road trips with their pups to the middle of nowhere Colorado and supporting each other through all of their passions! I’ve been inspired while watching them grow as a couple and developing their senses of self. This photo session was wonderful to see them relax a bit into their love and enjoy this beautiful place in Boulder with their dogs.

Couples sessions are perfect for any time of year, but I’m especially about them while the wildflowers are blooming and the land is so lush!

Trip to Illinois

June 2023

Each trip home continues to feel more magical than the last. I’ve found a renewed love for this state since I left. I adore the thick forests, the streams, Lake Michigan, my family, the sunsets and unexpected solitude in a place I’ve known for so long. The water is always healing and my sunrise beach day with Klarissa was no different.

What to Wear to a Photoshoot

What and what not to wear!

For your photoshoot, I want you to feel your best and be comfortable above all! If you already have your own style established, wonderful. This styling information is in relation to color theory, and emphasizing the focus of you and the surroundings in your photo location.

  1. Patterns

🚫Avoid: busy patterns like polka dots or zig zags

🚫Avoid: putting patterns next to each other

🚫Avoid: (for example) plaid pants with colorful striped shoes

➡️Instead, create space between patterns. For example: a plaid shirt with black pants and shoes with stripes

👍🏼Do wear: patterns like plaid, florals or subtle stripes

👍🏼Do pair patterns with a solid color.

👍🏼Do consider fabric with ruffles, pleats or buttons!

  2. Mindful Coordination

🚫Avoid: overwhelming your outfit with conflicting patterns that might distract from the primary focus – you!

👍🏼Do: pick one main pattern and complement it with solid colors

-patterned skirt with a white top

    -striped shirt with solid-colored pants

-floral dress with a neutral cardigan

  3. Complement Your Surroundings

❗️Consider: location and backdrop of the photoshoot

🏔Nature/Mountains/Forest: 👍🏼Do wear: earthy tones- Sage, Cream, Beige, Lavender

🏙City/Urban: 👍🏼Do wear: bold patterns- geometric designs, more color pops

  4. Accessorizing

🏔Nature: add a color pop with a rain jacket or backpack as an accessory

🏙Urban: try adding hair clips, a watch, scarf, hat, jewelry, nail polish, or colorful shoes!

Jim Biggers and Cathy Goodale are artists in Estes Park.

I was driving out of the Rocky Mountains with my Mom and I saw these two sitting and painting the mountainscape. I told my Mom, “I have to go talk to them and take photos!”

We pulled over and after a minute or two of anxiety about being a weirdo walking up to strangers, I spent 15 minutes chatting with them about their work and their day. These two are very talented and kind people.

Photography helps me to connect and get out of my comfort zone on a daily basis. Meeting new people invigorates and inspires me. I knew I would regret not making these photos if I didn’t convince myself to go chat with these lovely strangers and I’m so happy I did.

Marissa is the most photogenic CEO I’ve met so far!! She drove out to Cherry Creek to have these headshots taken for her business. She is doing impressive things and I admire her independence and personal approach to work. Marissa didn’t want to sacrifice her personality for professionality, but we found a middle ground that captures her bubbly self and her professional side.
