Britney and Scotty’s elopement near Denver was at the start of a snowstorm that had over 3 feet of accumulation in 24 hours! This was their first time in Colorado and it was an absolute treat for them to see so much snow. They are both so kind and caring towards each other. I loved seeing how naturally their love come out during their vows and the rest of the afternoon in photos.

Their elopement day was low stress, intentional and quiet. They got ready together, but still had a first look reveal with Britney’s dress. They spoke their vows next to a frozen lake with mountain views, celebrated with champagne and explored the nature spots near their cabin.

Taylor; my good friend, activist, mother, and so much more. I am continually inspired by her discipline in her work and commitment to these roles in life as well as working on her career. Her expression of her indigenous roots has been beautiful to witness. The time we get to spend together always leaves me feeling inspired and grateful.

Small Wedding Inspiration at the St Julien Hotel in Boulder, CO

Rebecca, Sheldon and Miyagi- the cutest trio on their wedding day. The Saint Julien in Boulder is a great hotel to host guests, a ceremony and dinner. Rebecca and Sheldon had their closest friends getting ready and relaxing with them in their suites before the ceremony.

An important part of a wedding day is having extra time for detail photos and additional special moments- like Miyagi adding his paw print to their marriage license! Rebecca and Sheldon had so many people show up for them to celebrate, so it was a busy day, but the time we built in for getting ready photos, details of cards and memorable events was worth the planning. Often times, couples will say they love the little moments like these the most out of all their photos. For Rebecca and Sheldon, they didn’t want much posing or photos of the two of them, so the unposed, spur or the moment photos were essential. Being able to distinguish what’s important for your day is what matters. Some people want all the attention on their interactions with guests, some have a choreographed first dance that is most important for them to have photos. And some want a mix of candids and posed photos with no specifics! Having information about different priorities from other couples can be helpful, but there’s no right or wrong way to make the day special!

Family Photographer in Boulder, CO

What to Expect at a Family Photo Session - Family Photographer in Boulder, CO

For photo sessions, I always arrive early, scout locations, check the weather and double check plans. Before this family session, there was an unexpected snow storm, so I needed to account for little Miko and make sure we could get to a location easily despite the weather. We originally wanted to go to a location in Boulder with views of the Flat Irons near Chautauqua. But the visibility was low, so we opted for a location closer to Taylor and Keith that had more foliage so we could see the landscape.

At every session, I arrive 20 minutes early to make sure the area is accessible, and to find specific areas for the photos so I don’t spend much time wandering and using up time.

After I chose a few spots for our session, this adorable family arrived and we made our way through the fresh snow. Even if your photo session is short, 30 minutes or so, it’s important for me to get as much variety as I can! I like to take close up photos, more wide angle shots, details and any pose requests you may have. And I always recommend including your pets!

Any photo session is best when treated like a date, a family outing, whatever it may be. even though it’s planned and curated in some ways, it’s still an experience to look back on and have good memories from! I prompt and guide you through poses so you don’t have to worry about posing. The more we can roll with the punches, like the weather changing/picking a new location, the better the photos will be. As a photographer, I need and looove to be prepared for anything during a session, but. I also try not to take things out of our control too seriously to keep the session fun! Presence is key :)

Sarah and Parker’s engagement session in the mountains

Any session I’m able to be at with Danielle is always at a stunning location. This was my first time at Guanella Pass and I was ecstatic! Leaf peeping is one of my favorite past times in the fall, so being in the middle of such massive aspen groves made my heart happy. I didn’t know I could get any more spoiled with incredible views until we found a secluded creek area that reminded me of Oregon. All the moss and lushness of the trees were beautiful. Feeling protected in a forest next to a river is one my favorite things to experience.

Sarah and Parker were high energy and willing to do any and all poses. They were so great at being in the present moment together. This is what helps photos look natural. When couples are able to laugh and chat with each other like I’m not even there. They of course brought some shooters and champagne to ease some nerves and it did the job perfectly haha

At the end of the session, we were blessed with a quiet moonrise while we wandered through a field, then a vivd sunset turning orange to pink over the mountains in the distance and it was perfect.

Being outside on a crispy fall day with a visit to a creek and a perfect sunset with such a happy and kind couple is what makes me so grateful to be a photographer in general and in Colorado. Having time built in to be in the moment with people in love is what makes me happiest.

Steamboat Springs

On our first day in Steamboat, there were clouds, but no new snow. We had a great day and found lots of leftover snow from the 27 inches that fell around Christmas time.

Our second day, we went to the Strawberry Hot Springs at night. It was about 3 degrees by the time we were back home. The hot springs were perfect. I had previously only been to the hot springs during the day. The night time experience was even more magical. There was no artificial lighting, just the moonlight beaming down in the pools.

When we got back from the hot springs, I went for a walk around the ski village. Although it was only a few degrees outside, I loved seeing what the village was like with no one there. The lights and fires were beautiful.

The morning that we left Steamboat, it was warmer. All the snow on the patio furniture outside had melted. There was about a foot of snow in that spot when we arrived. As we made our way up Rabbit Ears Pass, I got out to take photos of the trees that were frosted over from the -15 degree temperatures there and in Kremmling the night before.

Denver Family Photographer

These photos were just as fun as they look. Rilee and her family were high energy and had so many ideas for funny photos that fit their dynamic and personalities so well. Like their love for the Oregon State Beaver’s team. They brought 3 changes of outfits, accessories, changes of shoes and I was honestly impressed and happy to have so much enthusiasm!

They made the photos such a fun time for me. After Rilee and I worked together for several months this past summer, I was happy to meet her extended family and see the love they have for her. They all flew out from Oregon a few days before her birthday to celebrate and pose for these amazing photos at a park dear Denver.

After taking the group family photos, we moved onto some very on-brand headshots for Rilee to celebrate her birthday. Her self constructed Krispy Kreme donut cake was a hit. Especially to the dog (sadly not pictured) that ran past us and stole a donut off the tray.

Maternity Photo Inspiration with Dogs in Colorado

Maternity Photo Inspiration with Dogs in Colorado

Karl and Leanna are expecting a baby girl and they’re thrilled to have yet another girl in their pack. We explored this beautiful park in Lyons. I loved the huge rock wall by the river. The fall colors were still in full swing and we had perfect weather. The dogs, Annie and Meesha wanted to be near Leanna and Karl at all times which resulted in a fair amount of howling throughout our session. Luckily, that resulted in lots of laughs and fun moments in between. Leanna and Karl and wonderful, intelligent and kind people. I feel more grateful and happy each time I’m given the opportunity to document parts of my friends’ lives.
